I am definitely not a girly girl. You're more likely to find me in sneakers than stilettos. So it's out of character that I've found myself drawn to one of the season's more feminine trends: the skater skirt. It feels fun, playful, and versatile, perfect for going bare-legged on warmer fall days and then pairing with tights to transition into winter. Yet try as I might, I couldn't find one that didn't make me feel like a 1st-grader skipping off to school. The solution? When in doubt, do leather.
See, leather has this magical ability to make everything feel a little badass, and a leather skater skirt is no exception. It combines the elements that make this style wearable—a figure-flattering shape, a buoyant spirit—and elevates them to a place that's edgy and sophisticated. In other words, definitely not grade school material.
Because the skirt speaks for itself, I kept the rest of the outfit pretty straightforward. A silky blouse with a sporty raglan sleeve, along with black flats, a tough-luxe bag, and a couple delicate necklaces let the leather have its day in the sun. As temperatures drop I'll switch this look up with a chunky sweater and boots. A word to the wise, however. I've discovered that the skater skirt, even in leather, does induce random acts of twirling. Consider yourself warned!
