When I was small, my mother and I would tell each other stories. We'd take turns weaving tales of warrior princesses living deep in the woods, animals gaining the ability to speak when the sun went down, entire kingdoms thriving beneath the sea. Where one of us left off, the other would pick up, and so it would go for weeks until we'd exhausted a narrative's potential and we arrived at The End. Then we would begin anew under a different title. Why am I telling you this, you ask? When I recently stumbled upon the online boutique Sparrow & Co., I felt like I'd wandered into one of those stories.
At a basic level, Sparrow & Co. is a Scottish home decor site—a purveyor of cushions and cups, candlesticks and cutting boards. But really, there's nothing basic about them. If you're in the market for enchantment, they've got you covered. These cushions are pure linen, velvet, and silk; these cups are hand-thrown and one-of-a-kind. The candlesticks? Rustic yet made for romance. And the cutting boards? Just imagine the fit-for-a-warrior-princess meals you could slice and dice on those babies.
Now, are you sitting down for this? Sparrow & Co. is founded and owned by one Mr. Samuel Sparrow. Yes, that's his real name. Charming, no? I've already decided that I must collaborate with him in some way. (Because how catchy does Sparrow & Sage sound?) I'm thinking I'll offer my writing skills for a J. Peterman-style catalog. In the meantime, I'm eyeing that reindeer skin as inspiration for my mother's next visit. A warrior princess might find it the ideal deep woods accessory, no?
P.S. I clearly have a thing for this warrior princess theme. I subconciously mentioned it again when Anthology Magazine asked me to participate in their wandering thoughts column. It's up today!
