On Tuesday we're shooting Bri's house for the next issue of Rue. It is looking fan-tab-u-lous! She's done an amazing job pulling it all together, and we can't wait to share it with you. And of course we debuted Crystal's new home last issue. I'm so in awe of the design instincts of my team members. But it makes me think...perhaps I need to get my butt in gear on the homefront...?
So here are some more images from my 'Black, White, and Wood' inspiration files. (There are more here and here!) You know, it's my big plan for if I could start all over again, from the floors, to the the paint finishes, and beyond (here's how it looks now.) These are pulled from the current issue of House Beautiful, which really killed it this month. I've been drooling since it hit newsstands!
The trick with neutrals--I've said it before but it bears repeating--is to focus on tons of texture when you have an absence of color. And these spaces hit that nail on the head big time. Check out the black beadboard wall in this bathroom, along with the nubby woven basket beneath the slick marble sink surface, and the 'touch me please' legs of that side table. Yum!
In this entryway a faded red rug sneaks its way in, but its so sunworn and foot-loved that it might as well be a neutral. The lines of that shelf unit keep your your eyes moving throughout the space, making a narrow vestibule feel really dynamic and vast; a smart use of the vertical as well as the horizontal! Plus I'm always a big fan of finding new--non-cheesy--ways to display greenery in the home.
Whoa. This whole bathroom glistens like the wet interior of a shell, doesn't it? It has just enough vintage touches--apothecary bottles, a pharmacy mirror--to make it feel old, but not so many that I'm waiting for mold to start growing out of every crevice. ('Cause admit it, there's something wonderful about a new bathroom, isn't there?) Now to start convincing my landlord to let me gut the place...
