Can you smell it? The salt spray in the air, the smoldering coals of a driftwood fire, the seaweed washed up by the retreating tide. It's the heady scent of the ocean, and it's all I can think about when I see the Autumn 2011 collection from Quiksilver. I can barely contain my desire to grab a sunhat and some reading material for a mental health day by the shore!
Designed in collaboration with Bay Area artist Serena Mitnik-Miller, the collection is inspired by a San Francisco neighborhood called the Outer Sunset. Home to creative types, surfers and free spirits, the area is known for its foggy days and chilly nights. Many a time I've been in that 'hood and wished for a cozy blanket or sweater like the ones here!
It's so sublime to see colors, patterns and textures taken from nature and brought to life in fashion, without feeling too crunchy hippy granola. I see waves dancing on the rocks, ice flowers growing on fragile outcroppings, storms blowing in with drama, mystery, desire. I have it on good authority that we're about to see more amazing stuff from Quiksilver...so stay tuned!
