You know how I talk about 'design paralysis'? About seeing so many gorgeous ideas that I can't decide what I like for my own home, so I just do nothing at all? Here's a case in point. Last week I fawned over the Hollywood home of Jordana Brewster. 'This is it,' I said. 'This is my dream house.' And then I saw these images from Keri Russell's killer Brooklyn Brownstone in the June Elle Decor.
Don't get me wrong. I still love the feminine mid-century vibe of Jordana's place. But I'm swooning over the sophisticated neutrals, the layered textures, the rich yet cozy sensibility of this home. It's a vibe that I've been enamored with ever since my first trip to shops like Ochre and ABC Carpet and Home--that glamorous yet organic balance those stores strike so well.
The toughest part? The furniture I currently have could easily swing either way. My vintage 1960's sectional has clean lines and a basic foundation that allows it to play the fence, depending on how I upholster it. With a few styling tricks, my new Paul McCobb shelving unit becomes less Mad Men and more Harriet Maxwell McDonald.
But I digress. Let's talk 'get-the-look' on Keri's house. Traditional shapes in shades of linen, putty and worn walnut cohabit with raw wood and wire elements. It helps to have a hunky carpenter husband like Keri does, but you could always hire one and admire his biceps while he works on your custom cabinetry. After he leaves, hang some tonally painted canvases on the wall and you're good to go!

I love the apartment's simplicity and elegance. Much like Ms. Russell herself. Very clean and cozy all around.

LOVE this! I share your issue with design paralysis; it changes constantly, how can our interiors keep up?! Bit of this, bit of that, as budget, time, and space dictates?! Well done, A. Love it.

I can see why you are struggling with what house style to go with. I love the colors and textures in this home. The photo of the dining room is my favorite.
