Yesterday we had San Francisco's first truly hot weather in weeks. It reminded me: in spite of all my recent talk about fall fashion and decor, summer is not over!!! And it got me to thinking about that most venerable of summer institutions, the road trip! Having criss-crossed the continent at least 8 times, I consider myself an expert on the topic.
I'd love to load up the car with a cooler of snacks and iced tea, a couple sleeping bags, and a pair of dusty boots. I'd grab a few of my girlies--or maybe just myself--and hit the highways with no particular destination in mind. Soak up the sun through the windshield, count the cows and horses that dot the landscape, get hopelessly lost at least once.
But the most important part of a good road trip? The music. I once cranked the radio so loud that I blew a fuse in the car. To get in the mood for this post I made my ultimate dusty roads playlist--think country twang with an alt rock edge. You can listen to it here---and add songs of your own! So head over there and tell me: What's your fave road trip tune?
P.S. Have you entered to win $1000 yet? Create your ideal fall outfit and the cash could be yours!

Yes - blaring the music out loud is the best part of the road trip. That, and the food to munch on!!

You made use of the hefty bed-roll sleeping bag. I threw mine away thinking I would never need it... Great as a prop. Sweet style.

I'm going on a road trip down the West Coast this Saturday! For an entire week - so thrilled.
I don't imagine I'll look as chic as these ladies though :)

While I have yet to make a real cross-country road trip, I love spontaneous day trips where you just pick a direction and drive... that's how the best adventures happen. :)

A girl after my own heart! My dad is a geographer and I grew up with my legs stuck to the backseat of a station wagon, Walkman on full blast, driving for days, weeks and months anywhere and everywhere. In fact, I just did a post about our recent road trip to Idaho. That's right, the land of potatoes holds more magic than you'd think. Oh and music? Gotta have some Old Crow Medicine Show! They go nicely with dusty boots and messy hair. Word.

Have you ever considered adding more videos to your posts to keep the readers more entertained? I mean I just read through the entire article of yours and it was quite good but adding a video to it would make it even more entertaining.
