'Country' does not come to mind when I'm asked to describe my style. But there's something to be said for the folksy, down home interiors of Country Living. Their appeal is like a peach pie: warm and welcoming, the perfect pick-me-up when Daylight Savings Time has stolen an hour of your day.
Bright white English roll-arm chairs look pretty darn cool contrasted with cheery lemon yellow. I'll bet the panelled cupboards on that wall are concealing the homeowners ugly electronics and tacky, mismatched paperback books---a savvy storage solution if ever I've seen one!
Remember a few years ago when baby blue and chocolate brown were the world's most awesome color combo---and then we all got over it? Here it looks cool again. I attribute the fresh feeling to the fabulous shade of burnt umber on the walls. With just a smidge of blue and a few touches of gold, it feels very 2010.
What was that I said earlier about peaches? Here we have the makings of a sweet snack featuring that tasty fruit, some biscuits, and a big crock of wildflower honey. Oh yeah, and the huge island table, industrial stools, and zinc pendants are pretty nifty too. But did somebody say biscuits...?
Peaches again! They must be the official fruit of Southern Living magazine. While we ponder that, let's also admire this breathtaking kitchen set-up. I'm loving the unexpected combo of teeny-tiny marble tiles and bleached wood shelving; it is at once rustic and uber-stylish. A collection of raw glazed ceramics completes this stunning vignette.
Pardon me while I lift my jaw off the floor. The serene stone surfaces and bright natural light of this space have sent me into a haze of kitchen-induced ecstasy. And the juxtaposition of the angled granite countertops with the curvy slate planter? What a clever study in contrast!
Ahoy! It's Liberty of London for Target! I can spot that stuff a mile away...though sadly I didn't spot it soon enough to make any my own. However I adore this product shot featuring sweet, psychedelic florals; it's country style on a sugar high!
Finally, a recent article on decorating with ruffles yields a charming tabletop that is simply begging for a passel of little girls hosting a lemonade party. Or perhaps a passel of big girls, all wearing very chic designer outfits and stuffing themselves with magically calorie-free cupcakes? What a lovely dream that is, no?

I just want to plop onto that bed and stay there forever. Then head on down to the kitchen and help myself to some peach tarts.. and finish it off with a good cuppa tea. sigh...

When I was little, I used to lay on my mother's bed and flip through her Country Living issues - she has every issue starting in the mid-80s I think! Such a collection and it's neat to see how CL inspiration has changed and stayed the same over the years!

"it's country style on a sugar high!" Love it, Anne!! I subscribe to Australian Country Style ~ though I don't think I could live in the country, I love pretending I could. I still have to get those designer gumboots, then I'll be part way there. Maybe peaches will do the rest.

So funny that I don't think of myself as a country decor-type either, yet I always end up loving the styling and photos I find in Country Living, and trying to emulate it at home. Maybe country style has simply changed.
