The weekend is so close I can almost taste it, and we've been promised clear blue skies! I can't wait to take a long walk and admire the city as it blossoms to life; the arrival of spring's flowers never fails to strike me with wonder and awe.
Lilacs are a personal favorite. When I was growing up in Toronto, they were always in bloom on my birthday. Their heady scent still reminds me of special pancake breakfasts and oodles of gifts---though it's been awhile since I met my birthday with anything but a curmudgeonly scowl.
A lovely, clever friend of mine can't stand cut flowers; their inevitable decline makes her feel sad. I certainly understand that point of view, and though it's never stopped me from buying bouquets at the market, it does make me appreciate all the more a pot of hyacinth or daffodils thriving indoors.
What are your favorite spring flowers? How often do you bring them home, and how do you arrange them in your house? I'm so curious about the floral habits of others, so please do tell all!

Fabulous images Anne. It's heading for Autumn here, but after our scortching summer, its a good time to get flowers going again. perhaps this weekend.

Right now I have a small pastel pink hydrangea bush in my kitchen. It's a beautiful just because gift from my fiance...means a lot especially since I'm trying to pick a florist for our wedding...ugg!

I have to agree with you about the lilacs. My mom has some at my childhood home and she used to put them in a vase in my room to surprise me when I'd get home from school! Gotta miss stuff like that :)

I really love the artistic quality of the photo with the spent tulips! I kill most anything I try to grow, so I just buy fresh, enjoy them and throw them out when they die....the circle of life!

Trader Joe's is usually as fancy as I get. 2 bouquets a week, one for the dining room table and one for the coffee table in the living room. Lots of lilies, tulips and hydrangeas. As sad as a droopy bunch of flowers is, the fresh bouquets on my tables are always happier.

favorite spring flowers....peonies, hands down. if i buy flowers, i buy them to plant. funny, my husband's been quite the gardener of late. he actually bought seeds, has been germinating them in a spare bedroom, and now hardening them for transplant outside. can't wait to see our summer garden! pam

My favorite spring flowers will always be lilacs! Their pretty coloring and tantalizing scent gives me such comfort and reminds me of my childhood (when a lilac tree sat outside my bedroom window)! Lovely floral shots in your post, Anne!

I buy cut flowers occasionally throughout the year, but I frequently buy a flowering plant (bulbs or an orchid etc) as they last longer and I'm a bit frugal, shall we say. I love both and feel they add a pretty touch to the dining room. I always like to have something blooming in the centre of the table.
