Just before Christmas I left my glasses on the floor. Crunch! Time for a new pair! I wear my glasses all the time--have tried contacts but just can't get into touching my own eyeballs--so when I buy new frames it's a major decision. Lately I've been drawn to ever larger, ever nerdier specs. Somehow these girls manage to make them look so glamorous!
With this style, it's go big or go home. Even consider trying men's glasses--on a woman's face they provide that ideal oversized 80's edge. Of course the rules of fit and proportion still apply; your eyes should be evenly spaced within the frames (not too high or too low). With my fair coloring I'll stick with tortoiseshell or grey, but I love the look of thick black glasses on those who can pull it off!
Another great thing about glasses? They're an excuse to indulge your inner label whore on a wholly practical item. For example, did you know Chloe makes eyeglasses? I'll keep you updated on my search, and maybe if I'm brave enough post some pics once I decide!
Now tell me: Do you wear glasses? What styles are you loving at the moment?

I wear glasses and I've been really drawn to great big man glasses too but when I tried them on I felt really really silly! It turns out that I'm just not cool enough.

I too am enduring a long, painful search for new frames. Part of me wants to take a leap and go for the thicker, trendy nerd frames, but seeing as it's so difficult for me to make a decision, I don't know if that's the best route.
I'd love to see pictures once you decide!

I generally shell out big time for new frames every two years. I justify it because I wear my glasses every waking moment of every day.
But...a couple weeks ago I broke my current pair and wasn't eligible for new frames yet. I hopped on Zenni Optical with my prescription and indulged in 5 pairs of wildly different styles, for less than I usually pay for a single pair. Now I have serious nerd glasses, retro cats eye glasses, and more. I love it.

Ooo, I love the idea of getting nerdy glasses! My friend just got this awesome thick rimmed pair of Robert Marc glasses on sale and they look amazing! Good luck with your search!

I thought about the large nerdy option but went for some older school round frames from Schnuchel, handmade in Germany. They're gorgeous, well made, and pretty rare.

These look so cool! I bet you could totally rock a pair.

Aren't they fun!?! I almost got me a pair of prescription granny glasses a while back, but my mom didn't think I'd wear them. Alas, I now hate the sensible frames I ended up getting.
When you're at ALT (I saw that you're coming via @altsummit) you can stop by MisC. It's an adorable thrift shop attached to a MCM furniture store. Anyway, they have LOADS of these retro glasses for under $10. Not bad for just frames, eh?

I love them!

I like the Ray Bans and Chanel.
I could never pull glasses like these off, but if I could I think I would surely love to own a pair:)

I've been putting off getting glasses....I just don't wanna!

Honestly: I can't deal with the huge 80's glasses. I already wore them. at age 8. With a horrible perm-gone-wrong. boys teased me. been there done that, over it. waaaaay over it.
but, I covet these glasses. Handmade wooden glasses frames in ANY style you want. He'll do the big ones if you want them, or any thing else it looks like: Urban Spectacles http://www.urbanspectacles.com/

You might also consider Moscot. I have the Danee frames and always get compliments on em.

I still have my old Oliver Peoples frames from the 80s. They're enormous. I can't believe I didn't think they were so big then.

i wear glasses when I don't have my contacts in and I am loving the nerd look too, just not sure if I can pull it off. I lean towards a rectangle frame.

I've had these Dior glasses> http://www.framesdirect.com/framesfp/Christian_Dior-tdlhse/r.html > in the Olive Amber for a couple of years now and I love them. They're stylish without being trendy and every time I wear them someone tells me they like them and asks if they're new even though I rarely take them off these days. I'm loving the 3rd and 5th pairs.

ah, love your thinking! i absolutely adore #2 & #6. i don't even wear glasses, but i snagged a pair of faux tortise shell frames at a swap meet for $5.
