Well, it's the last day of 2009, so I thought I'd revisit some of my favorite images from the past year. From my many book reviews, these are the scenes that I returned to again and again, drooling to my little heart's content! From A Passion for Collecting, striped upholstery and walls of softest pink made for some serious eye candy.
Amy Butler's book Found Style is a constant source of inspiration, and this photo is a perfect example of why. Casual topiary, checkered floors, and a minty green hue throughout? Sheer heaven!
I also hold Found Style completely responsible for my obsession with glass cloches. I still can't bring myself to spend $60 a pop on them and instead admire them from afar. Given the kittens' proclivity for destruction, that's probably for the best.
Another 2009 favourite was Josephine Ryan's French Home. This was the book that had me wishing for a month spent antiquing trips in France. Have I gone yet? No. Would I find anything so splendid as those round tarnished mirrors? Who knows...but the dream lives on!
French Home also convinced me of the power of a touch of red. Nothing pleases me more than a shot of faded cherry against a backdrop of washed-out neutrals. Toss in some vintage perfume bottles and I'm a goner!
Flea Market Style: my go-to source for cheeky, eclectic interiors. It's funny, but looking back at the images that have stayed with me this year, I see how they've influenced my own home. The palette and style here look remarkably like my living room!
From Simple Style by Julia Bird: this book is a constant breath of fresh air. Think casual settings that feature plenty of worn linens, earthy textures, and barely-there color. And of course plenty of antique chandeliers to admire!
Finally, courtesy of The Find, a serene and peaceful vignette in grey and white. An image full of style, warmth, and peace--the perfect way to end the old year and welcome the new!
Have a smashing evening, whether you're going out or staying in, and I'll see you next year! (Don't you love saying that?)

Flea Market style sounds like my kind of book! I love that extremely large photo of the princess...or beauty queen...or something. Happy New Year Anne!

Oh, I got a black and white striped jacket at Macy's recently (super amazing post Xmas sale) and that top picture is inspiring me in how to wear it. If you take requests for putting an outfit together based on a room - I'd love to see you "dress" around that striped sofa!!
Happy New Year!

A tangential comment:
Go for it with the glass cloches. My Matilda-Cat has a penchant for decor sabotage, but I've found heavy glass vessels and cloches to be an excellent deterrent for feline destruction. She can't quite push them over, so they're a safe spot to display lovely, fragile little thing!
Happy New Year, Anne!
