It seems like it's raining all over the world this week! Here in San Francisco we've had torrential downpours, toppled trees, and sightings of one very large drowned rat (aka yours truly). So because it's Wednesday, because I'm wet and cold, and because I'd rather be in bed watching The Biggest Loser, here's a smattering of images that have been floating in my inspiration files. There's no theme, there's no rhyme or reason--I guess you could say I've been saving them for a rainy day!
The eclectic mix of pieces here shouldn't work, yet it does. An old-timey sleigh bed somehow manages to look right at home next to industrial architecture and contemporary artwork. Of course, you could probably go dumpster diving to furnish this room and it would still look spectacular--check out those ceilings!
When I grow up and open a bed and breakfast in the Sierra Nevada mountains, my signature suite will look just like this one! Worn leather, snuggle-worthy blankets, and some seriously stylish luggage: who wouldn't want to stay in this room? Especially if it meant waking up the the smell of my secret recipe pancakes cooking on the griddle...
Okay, maybe deer heads are so last year, and maybe its impractical to use a wall of shelves to display a ceramics collection, but I do so love this space. Maybe it's the mocha hue on the walls, maybe its the slightly iridescent purple velvet upholstery, but my heart is racing!
Utter perfection. From the oversized marble tiles to the rustic wainscoting, from the mix-n-match seat covers on the chairs to the unexpected romance of the crystal candelabra, this vignette is a cool, refreshing drink indeed. Also, anyone know where can I get a painting of wooden spoons?
Lately this is one of my favorite color palettes. Rose, slate and avocado team up with a base of warm oatmeal to create a vibe that feels borrowed from a touchy-feely social worker's office circa 1978. I want to lie down on this couch for a little cognitive behavioural therapy, then head home to make quiche and water my spider plant.
Pow! This bedroom is a sucker punch of color, right in the face! When I was a kid, these were some of my favourite crayons to color with--there was nothing like a shot of turquoise, violet and magenta to get the party started! I'm loving the combo equally well in this context, especially with the restraining presence of warm brown wood.
Of course this entire room is stunning, but that salmon-hued armchair steals the show. I'm so seduced by studded furniture, and I adore the unusual scale and proportions of this piece. Plus who knew that this color has such a commanding presence, especially when paired with steel grey? I'll take a rainy day any time if it means hanging out here! Stay dry everyone :)

I can't believe it's raining so badly up there. I moved to San Diego a little more than a month ago and I've only seen 15 minutes of a light drizzle. Frankly, I wouldn't mind it if you sent one of those giant storm down the coast. And ewww about the rat.
I love the first photograph. I've become increasingly obsessed with that sort of thrown together, inexpensive style. Might be because of my budget. Either way, it's lovely.
